Founded by Martin G. Murray over 20 years ago, the Washington Friends is a group of scholars, researchers, historians, and just plain lovers of poetry. The Friends sponsor annual talks and tours on Whitman's connection to Washington, DC, meet-the-author events for new book publications about Whitman's life and legacy, and occasional trips to sites relevant to Whitman's life.
